Suspected cases of H1N1 infections in the University of the Philippines

Although U.P. Diliman had prudently postponed the opening of classes by one week, the radios are blaring that U.P. Diliman has confirmed cases of H1N1 infections with some patients confined in the U.P. Infirmary. Not one to give weight to rumors until reponsibile officials give out announcements, it is prudent for everyone concerned, students, faculty and the general Juan Publiko to exercise restraint in getting too excited over this news. A Pandemic must not turn into Pandemonium!

People are advised not to go into the U.P. Infirmary, but everyone must know that the Philipines has no comparable equivalent to the CDC (Center for Disease Control) of the U.S. A. The flu virus must have already spread out into the air!

Do not expose yourself into alternating rain and sunshine, and wear a hat, or bring an umbrella always. Your should wear an undershirt (camiseta) the better to keep your body warmth better! Cover your mouth when you cough and drink plenty of water, and juices. An apple or fruit a day keeps the health blues away. And though I don’t believe in vitamins and supplements, it will not hurt to take them when you have the money. What is the use if you have all the money in the world and you get H1N1?!

Some people in good companies are lucky, they get free yearly anti-flu shots which should be enforced all over the Philippines. Only the very young and old are very susceptible to H1N1 (which started in Mexico and which spread all over the world)!. Beware also that Dengue is so much more dangerous in this poorly governed country, hence we must maintain environmental cleanliness and good hygiene.
