Topblogs rankings for the week ending January 24: Jan 18,19,20,22,23,24 updates

Our summary data is based on http://www.topblogs.com.ph/education rankings and so far we were allowed to report our minor analysis. I have seen a blog ranking site specifically allowing comments or blog posts about results.

Our rankings is a snapshot of topblogs taken at around 12:00-2:00 noon. We cannot and will not attempt to catch the final rankings which may make some changes to our published reports, especially for those sites which are only a few visitors behind each other.
Topblogs do not archive their weely reports.

We are puzzled sometimes why we cannot make a report automatically and we find that topblogs continue to improve its presentation html code. It is a challenge to get the summary data we use to create our reports near noon, and it took us nearly an hour to reprogram our
html table generator code. Here is the Jan. 24 output taken a few 10+ minutes after 12:000:

Congratulations to Coolbuster again and to its sister site, NLE November 2009 Results at #10. Both are attuned to the need of the Filiipino browsing public and it is worthwhile learning from these well performing sites.

Nurse Review is behind Coolbuster by a stunning 11,534 visitors.

Grile Haret, the Romanian University(World’s largest!) site visitors is still ranked high: #3.

At #4 is another PRC Board exam results reporting site. This site confuses us with another blog with the same name!

At #5 is Mahalino.com, a compendium of endineering, math review problems, attracting
5,112 visitors.

Maikling Kuwento is a niche site and shows that the number of visitors can still propel it to position #6.

Our own site Digital Explorations ended at a respectable #8 inside the top 20s.It is behind by 186 visitors, the #7 site The Critical Thinker which has a fine worldwide readership.

At #9 is another(too many PRC reporting sites!): Civil Service and PRC Board Exam Results pulling in 1431 visitors.

We had to rewrite the code due to some glitch in the saved rankings file. But here are the results for Jan. 23, taken at around 2:00 pm,(we were in school).
Coolbuster is at the top with a vengeance, with the next top ranked site very way behind by
10,604. The webmasters at Coolbuster has another punch: it has a sister site at #10 garnering a respectable 1009 visitors. We did not even noticed Coolbuster’s sister site going up the ranks before.

Excitement over the release of the NLE November 2009 is building up to cresendo with the most probable release date in February. Digital Explorations will try to catch on the action by providing a page of indices to sites showing the results. We will try tomorrow if we can publish a post about NLE Nov. 2009 exam results.

It looks like Coolbuster luster will shine for the rest of January and we think it will still shine bright in succeeding months. We are amazed it can pull a lot of visitors in a week where our own site has accumulated in nearly five months, where we consciously tried to
increase our readership. Newcomers could learn a lot from the current #1 site. Firstly if you want absolutely control or flexibility on your layout, you have to host it yourself. Secondly, the site must have widgets to entice visitors to come back to the site more like a familiar landmark, like chatboxes. and thirdly and most important, contents must be refreshed always. You could be in the top ten even if the last post was done in 2008-2009, but competition is getting sharper.

There is one change in the current top ten rankings. Nurse Review has grabbed back the #2 spot over the foreign sounding Grile Haret site. The PRC reporting sites are getting more visitors. We think that the release of NLE will usher in stratospheric number of visitors. Sites wanting a piece of the pie get ready, the scheduled NLEx release is in February.

Here is our latest snapshot of the Topblogs rankings.

Coolbuster regains its shine by zooming again to the top spot, leaving the rest
way way behind. As a contrast the second placer, Haret, is 5562 behind.
Our own humble site is at #8, 206 visitors behind The Critical Thinker. We will think up of ways to increase our rankings after giving the first exams. We believe and some people also do, that our site needs more oomh and design polish and more advertising, though we are content right now that our blog pages are near the top of the displayed results in Google searches.

We are a little unhappy that we were not able to present the final rankings for the previous week. There is no need to feel unhappy for the rest of the week since we will simply leave it behind us.

Here are the January 18 rankings taken near 12:12 after high noon. Coolbuster bounced back to get the lead in today’s rankings, but Grile Haret, which is 2070 visitors behind is waiting to roar back to the top. We hope that the competition will be interesting to watch. Of course, the degree of usefullness of the top 50 education sites to Filipino surfers is a subjective matter.
